Clergy
Interim Rector The Reverend

Vanessa Glass

The Rev. Vanessa Glass has served as the Rector at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church (Novato) since 2011. She has training in appreciative transitional ministry through the Clergy Leadership Institute and has had the experience of leading her current congregation through the transition that followed after the retirement of their rector of twenty-seven years. Vanessa is a life-long Episcopalian, with deep roots in the Diocese of Northern California. She has a baccalaureate degree in Organizational Communication from California State University (Sacramento) and a Masters of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific.

Prior to becoming the Rector of St. Francis, Vanessa served as the Senior Associate Pastor at Grace Cathedral. In addition to ministry at St. Francis, she is engaged in church-wide ministries. She co-chairs the Diocese of California’s deputation to General Convention and also serves as a faculty member of CREDO, an annual wellness conference for active clergy nationwide. Interested in the intersection of mind, body and spirit, Vanessa is a Veriditas-trained Labyrinth Facilitator, a yoga teacher, and recently received level one training in Reiki.

Vanessa lives in San Rafael with her two daughters, Grace and Caitlin, two chickens named Hope and Stella, and Lucy, their beloved smooth-coat collie. Grace is sixteen and a junior at Drake High School in San Anselmo, where she runs cross country and sails in the Richmond Bay. Caitlin is thirteen and completing eighth grade and her final year at San Domenico, where she enjoys soccer and basketball. Vanessa’s partner, The Rev. Terri Hobart, is the Rector of St. Luke’s in Woodland. Vanessa will continue living in San Rafael and commute to St. Mary’s. She has already commented on the beautiful counter commute through the vineyards.

Vanessa writes, “I am so excited about this appointment and have sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit every step of the way. I’m looking forward to meeting you, greeting each other in the name of Christ, and joining you on this transitional phase of your journey at St. Mary’s.”
